Tips for Natural Termite Control

By Chris Cornell

Most of the termite control requires some sort of toxic presence. Believe it or not, this toxic can be harmful to our health as well, especially if they pollute the soil and the plants that grow with it. Thus, here are some tips to natural termite control.

The simplest natural termite control is to remove all food sources. Anything that contains cellulose attracts termites, so you would want to create a barrier between them. Such barrier should be made out of materials that do not attract termites, such as metal. You could use them as slates or stirrups to store such food sources.

Reducing moisture is also important because termites are attracted to the moisture in wood. Although you may not purposely keep your wood wet, do ensure that water sources like pipes, drains, and gutters are properly installed so that the water that rushes out do not get between the walls. Constantly ventilating the area also allows areas to stay dry and prevent moisture build up. Especially if subterranean termites are a big threat in your area, you should consider creating ventilation systems like vents so that the water cannot build up too easily there.

You could also reduce the soil levels around your garden as subterranean termites would tunnel through with ease. The deeper it is, the better for them, as they try to avoid light and heat. Reducing the soil makes the area unpleasant to tunnel through. Plus, soil that is not deep will prevent too much water from building up underground.

Monitoring high-risk termite activity areas should also be done often. Always check to see if there are indications of termite activity, such as termite damage. This allows you to take a fast action to prevent the termite colony from growing even bigger. If possible, have the professionals inspect the area beforehand, and allow them to educate you regarding the termites, your high-risk areas, and signs that you should look out for. It is best you take extra precautions so that these pesky pests so not infest behind your back.
